Perry Saturn didn’t jump to WWE for the spotlight — he left WCW because he was told straight-up he’d never be given a real shot.
During his tell-all interview on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, Saturn finally revealed the exact moment he knew his WCW run was dead in the water. It came directly from the man booking the show.
“Kevin [Sullivan] told me to my face, he goes, ‘Perry, I see no money in you. I will not ever push you.’”
That one statement changed everything. Saturn realized staying in WCW meant wasting the rest of his prime under a system that had already written him off.
“Okay, that’s his right, because he’s the booker. If he doesn’t think he can get me over, then that hurts his job too. At least he was honest with me there.”
But the issues ran deeper than one harsh comment. According to Saturn, backstage politics were out of control once Eric Bischoff lost his power. Sullivan and others routinely undercut talent — even changing finishes behind the scenes.
“Eric told me we were defending the tag titles on Thunder. We get to the show and Sullivan’s got us in singles doing the job. I said, ‘Kevin, Eric told me something else.’ He said, ‘Well, good luck. If you can get a hold of Eric, good luck.’”
Saturn wasn’t afraid to escalate. He called Bischoff directly and let him know what was happening — which only made things worse for him behind the scenes.
“If Eric was there, they took care of us. If he wasn’t there, they were f**ing us.”*
That toxic environment, combined with Sullivan’s flat-out dismissal of his potential, led to one of WCW’s biggest locker room losses. Saturn, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Dean Malenko took their talents to WWE — a move that many fans consider the beginning of the end for WCW.
Perry Saturn didn’t leave WCW looking for greener pastures. He left because the people in power made it crystal clear — he was never going to be anything more than expendable.
Do you think Saturn and the Radicalz leaving really sealed WCW’s fate? Or was the company already too far gone by then? Sound off in the comments and let us know your take.
