Perry Saturn says The Renegade’s former girlfriend personally told him that she said “shoot yourself” moments before the WCW wrestler fatally shot himself.
Saturn made the revelation while discussing Rick “The Renegade” Wilson and the Dark Side of the Ring episode covering his life and death. Saturn said he knew Wilson’s girlfriend and later spoke with her directly about what happened that night.
According to Saturn, she told him an argument had turned violent and that she pulled a gun because Wilson was beating her. Saturn said Wilson then took the weapon from her, pointed it at himself and asked whether she wanted him to die. Saturn said she admitted responding in anger by telling him to shoot himself.
“She told me that she did pull a gun on him because he was beating her up, and he took the gun and pointed it at himself and said to her, ‘Do you want me to die? I’ll shoot myself.’ And in anger, she goes, ‘Yeah, shoot yourself.’ And he brought the gun to his head, and it went off.”
Saturn said the story she told him was generally consistent with what he understood from the police account, but that conversation gave him a different perspective on the woman who was there when Wilson died. He argued that, assuming events happened the way she described them, telling Wilson to do it and then watching him actually pull the trigger would leave an enormous amount of guilt behind.
“No matter what you think of her, if that is how it happened, she’s dealing with her own fucking bunch of grief too. Because how do you not blame yourself if you tell him, ‘Yeah, do it,’ and it happens?”
Saturn also pushed back against criticism directed at Wilson’s girlfriend in the Dark Side of the Ring episode, including discussion about what she wore to his funeral. He felt that was insignificant compared to what she had just witnessed and what she may have been dealing with afterward.
Saturn’s account is based on what he says Wilson’s former girlfriend personally told him after the death, but it adds a brutal new detail to his version of what happened during The Renegade’s final moments.
