Paul Wight isn’t just daydreaming about bringing Captain Insano back. He’s actually trying to get his body ready for it.

While speaking with Joey Franchize, Wight said reviving the Waterboy character has become one of his personal goals, and he made it clear he would jump at the chance to work with Adam Sandler again if that door ever opened.

“Adam Sandler calls me, I’ll come over and wash his cars. Whatever he needs. You know what I mean? Like, my name is Paul and I do it all. What do you need?”

Wight said Captain Insano has been a gift to his career, and AEW getting permission to use the character in wrestling gave him a chance to do something different. But he also knows the comeback can’t just happen because fans want it. He has to be physically ready.

“Yeah, that’s been a great gift. That whole character has been such an iconic character, the Captain Insano character, and Tony getting permission to use that in wrestling, it’s great. I think if I can get it going and get Captain Insano rocking and rolling, I think it would only make sense to include that, but a lot of that’s on me, too. So, I got to have my stuff ready. It’s nice to sit back and wish and dream and ponder, but you got to lace your boots up and get the work done. So, we’ll see what happens.”

That is where his recent weight loss comes in. Wight said Captain Insano is not Paul Wight, The Giant, or the Big Show. The character needs a completely different kind of energy, and he knows he can’t bring him back properly if he is just standing around.

“I’m looking forward to it because it’s a different character. It’s not Paul Wight. It’s not my old character. It’s not The Giant. Captain Insano is a completely different character with completely different energy. A lot of energy, because Captain Insano has got to be like—it can’t be Captain Insano and, you know, he’s sitting on the ring post like a turtle taking a nap. It’s not that guy. Captain’s got to have a lot of energy. Hence all the weight loss and cardio.”

That makes all the recent Captain Insano movement feel a lot less random. AEW filed a trademark for the character back in January 2025, covering merchandise, action figures, live appearances, televised appearances, and wrestling-related entertainment. Wight had already brought the character back in AEW before, including appearances in The Acclaimed’s music video and a skit with MJF and Adam Cole.

He also revived Captain Insano for the Country Music Awards back in 2024, and previously teased that he would love to bring the character back for something special. Now, it sounds like the biggest piece is Wight himself getting ready. He even joked that Captain Insano may not return in the exact same gear fans remember.

“We might need to update the uniform, though. I don’t know. The stars are cool, but we need to update the gear somehow. So, we’ll work on it. I’m sure the fans will let me know if I break out some new gear. ‘Go back to the old gear. The new gear sucks.’ And I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, okay. You’re right.’”

Wight has already been showing off his body transformation online, and now fans have another reason to connect the dots. This may not be just about getting healthier or having one more wrestling run. It sounds like Captain Insano is part of the motivation.

AEW has the trademark, Wight has the character in mind, and the man himself says he is doing the weight loss and cardio needed to make it work. Captain Insano may not be back just yet, but Wight is clearly trying to make sure that when he does return, he can actually bring the energy the character needs.
