The long-awaited Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger is almost here, and one of the biggest questions surrounding the deal has finally been answered. Just days before the transaction is expected to close, David Ellison has officially revealed the name of the new company that will oversee both media giants.

On October 2, it was announced that the combined company will operate under the Skydance name when the merger is expected to close on October 6. While Skydance will become the corporate umbrella, Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery aren’t going anywhere. Instead, they’ll continue operating as their own individual brands beneath the new parent company. Ellison explained that preserving those identities was one of the biggest reasons behind the decision.

“We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic.”

Rather than replacing two of Hollywood’s biggest names, Ellison said the goal was to give the merged company its own identity while allowing both studios to keep the legacies they’ve spent decades building.

“Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one.”

“Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.”

To accompany the announcement, Skydance released a launch video celebrating the combined history of both companies. The video featured clips from films including Top Gun: Maverick, Sinners, The Godfather, Chinatown, The Dark Knight, Casablanca, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, highlighting the massive film library that will now sit under one corporate banner.

Ellison also shared a lengthy statement on social media, saying the merger isn’t about replacing the past but building on it.

“What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.”

“Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history — we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.”

Looking ahead, Ellison said the company has ambitious plans while still respecting what made both studios successful in the first place.

“We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance. I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.”

Assuming the merger closes as expected next week, Skydance will officially become one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world, while Paramount and Warner Bros. continue operating as the household names audiences already know.
