WWE isn’t wasting any time getting to one of NXT’s biggest matches tonight. Just hours before the August 18 show, the company revealed that the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship No. 1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way will kick off the entire episode.
NXT made the announcement on Twitter, confirming that Romeo Moreno, Tristan Angels, La Parka and E.K. Prosper will be the first wrestlers through the curtain.
“KICKING OFF THE SHOW! Romeo Moreno vs. @tristanangels03 vs. La Parka vs. @EKProsperr TONIGHT on #WWENXT!”
There’s considerably more riding on the opener than simply starting NXT with a four-way match. The winner becomes the No. 1 contender for Rey Fenix’s AAA World Cruiserweight Championship, putting Moreno, Angels, La Parka and Prosper one victory away from a championship opportunity.
The match was already part of a packed August 18 lineup, but WWE has now given fans a reason not to show up late.
Lexis King will also defend the WWE Men’s Speed Championship against Lucien Price, while NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey teams with WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair against Kelani Jordan and Kali Armstrong. Thea Hail faces Nattie, while Shiloh Hill takes on Jackson Drake.
But before any of that happens, four wrestlers are fighting for the chance to get Rey Fenix—and WWE is putting them straight into the opening spot.
