Nyla Rose is still pissed about what went down in Oklahoma, and she isn’t trying to make her feelings sound pretty. The former AEW Women’s World Champion went straight at the Oklahoma Athletic Commission while discussing the December 2023 situation that put her ability to wrestle in the state under the microscope.
While speaking to Denise Salcedo, Rose was asked about what happened in Oklahoma and whether she was comfortable revisiting it. Nyla agreed to go there, and once she did, she absolutely unloaded. Rose didn’t dance around who she blamed or how she viewed the situation.
“Yeah, sure. We can we’ll touch on that a little bit. Uh so basically when I mean to be perfectly blunt hateful bigots, you know, with with no basis for anything, uh Athletic Commission is a scam. They’re just a bunch of greedy people who have found an avenue to to work people out of money and they’re using new laws and loopholes to to do what they want to do basically.”
The controversy traces back to AEW and ROH’s December 2023 stop in Oklahoma. The commission later raised an issue over Rose competing against Alejandra Lion, with its rules governing matches between male and female participants becoming the center of the dispute. Ringside News previously covered how the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission considered changing those rules before ultimately keeping its restrictions in place.
Salcedo then brought up Tony Khan publicly standing behind Rose during the situation and asked what that support meant to her. Rose admitted Khan’s immediate response actually caught her off guard.
“Absolutely. I I I was a little shocked to be totally honest with you. I was I was very shocked. us very surprised and uh incredibly grateful that he he would with zero hesitation like there was there was no thought there.”
Rose said there was no debate from Khan about where he stood. For Rose, that response told her something bigger about the AEW president as a person.
“Uh he he just he knew the right side of history to be on and and that’s where he stood 10 toes down.”
“Um and and for someone of his caliber in his position to do that, he absolutely did not have to, but he did. And that that speaks a lot about who he is as a person and who he is as a man. and and I’m so grateful to him for that.”
More than two years after the original Oklahoma controversy, Rose clearly hasn’t forgotten how the whole thing went down. She may have appreciated Khan immediately having her back, but when it comes to the people and system she believes created the problem in the first place, Nyla isn’t handing out any forgiveness — she’s calling the commission a “scam” and saying exactly what she thinks was behind it.
