Shawn Spears hasn’t appeared on NXT television in over two months, leaving fans wondering what happened after his feud with The Culling suddenly came to an end. According to a new backstage update, however, Spears is still very much involved behind the scenes.
Spears was last seen on the July 21 episode of NXT, where he defeated Niko Vance by disqualification as his rivalry with his former faction continued. After that, he quietly disappeared from television, with no explanation given on screen.
During a recent PWInsider Q&A, Mike Johnson was asked why Spears had vanished from NXT programming and whether he was dealing with an injury. Johnson responded that Spears remains with the brand and has been contributing in a different role while away from television.
“He is still with NXT and assists with coaching talents.”
The update doesn’t explain when Spears could return to TV, but it does confirm he hasn’t left WWE or been sidelined by injury. Instead, he’s been helping develop talent behind the scenes while remaining part of the NXT system.
Whether Spears eventually returns to continue his own storylines remains to be seen, but for now, it appears he’s staying busy in Orlando even if fans haven’t seen him inside the ring in recent months.
