Nick LoPiccolo is standing firm on his claims about AEW’s television future, insisting that Warner Bros. Discovery already told AEW leadership it would not pick up the renewal option when the current deal expires.
The situation escalated after Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp published a report pushing back against the growing speculation. The alleged sources across multiple sides denied that Warner Bros. Discovery had canceled AEW Dynamite or declined any renewal option tied to the company’s television deal. They shared that the idea of AEW being canceled or losing its option was strongly disputed by sources familiar with the situation.
“Those we spoke to on all sides said that WBD has not canceled AEW Dynamite or ‘not picked up an option’ or anything of the sort. It was vehemently denied.”
That denial didn’t sit well with LoPiccolo, who responded directly to Sapp and clarified that his claim was never about Dynamite being canceled. Instead, he mentioned that his report centered specifically on the renewal option tied to AEW’s existing deal.
LoPiccolo responded publicly and doubled down on his position, stating that Warner Bros. Discovery informed AEW months ago that it would not move forward with the option when the current agreement ends.
“.@SeanRossSapp they did not cancel dynamite but wbd told tony in august they would not pick up the option. if someone denied this to fightful, they are very low level.”
His response makes a clear distinction between cancellation and renewal. According to LoPiccolo, AEW programming remains active under its current contract, but he claims the long-term future was already decided months ago when Warner Bros. Discovery allegedly declined the option tied to the deal.
For now, the situation remains unsettled publicly, with one side citing firm denials while the other insists the renewal decision has already been made behind closed doors.
