WWE didn’t just load up the SummerSlam card with major matches. The company also brought several legends into Minneapolis for the biggest event of the summer.
PWInsider.com confirmed that Demolition, Greg Gagne, Jimmy Hart, Tito Santana and Sean Waltman were all backstage at SummerSlam on Saturday. That is a serious collection of names from different eras of WWE history, and their presence immediately raises questions about whether any of them could appear during the show.
There is no confirmation that the legends are scheduled for an on-screen role, but WWE rarely brings this many familiar faces backstage without creating some kind of speculation. They could be there as guests, for interviews, for promotional content or for a surprise appearance during the broadcast. The confirmed legends backstage are:
- Demolition
- Greg Gagne
- Jimmy Hart
- Tito Santana
- Sean Waltman
SummerSlam Saturday already has plenty going on inside the ring. CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, while Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi will tear into each other inside Hell in a Cell.
Liv Morgan will also defend the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY. GUNTHER is set to face Nick Aldis, while LA Knight, Solo Sikoa and Royce Keyes will battle Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu in six-man tag team action.
The women’s division will also get a major tag team match, with Nikki Bella, Brie Bella and Paige taking on Jacy Jayne, Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley.
The lineup was already stacked, but the presence of multiple WWE legends adds another layer to the show. Now the big question is whether they stay backstage or end up becoming part of SummerSlam before the night is over.
