AJ Styles has someone else in his corner. After spending the day getting dragged for defending his son Avery Styles in the GCW “pay your dues” controversy, Moose jumped into the fight—and basically told Arik Cannon the whole thing was ridiculous.
The former TNA World Champion responded directly to Cannon on Twitter, taking issue with the idea that Avery should be getting lectured for not helping tear down an independent wrestling show. And Moose didn’t exactly tiptoe around it.
“Bro relax it’s an Indy show the whole pay your dues at an Indy show is dumb. Different story if it was a tv company…we’re talking about a freaking Indy show. A 20 year indy vet giving advice to the kid of one of the greatest to do it in a professional level is kinda laughable.”
That last sentence is probably going to keep this argument alive for a while. The entire mess started after Cannon accused Avery of avoiding teardown duties following a GCW show in Minneapolis. AJ saw the criticism, jumped in to defend his son and argued that Avery was booked to wrestle—not work ring crew.
That didn’t go particularly well. Wrestlers and fans quickly pushed back, arguing that helping after independent shows isn’t about getting another paycheck. It’s part of the culture, especially for younger wrestlers trying to earn respect.
What started as AJ Styles defending his son against a veteran indie wrestler suddenly has another major name involved, and Moose isn’t offering some careful middle ground. He thinks expecting Avery to “pay his dues” this way at an indie show is dumb, and he thinks Cannon trying to school him makes the situation even more laughable. Something tells us Arik Cannon might have a response to that.
