Fans hoping MJF might pull off a surprise appearance at AEW Redemption should not get their hopes up.
Fightful Select reports there has been no indication that MJF will be involved in Sunday’s pay-per-view from Montreal. AEW is instead expected to bring the former World Champion back into the picture heading toward All In.
“We’ve not heard anything about MJF’s involvement at Redemption as of now. He is expected to be factored into All In.”
MJF’s absence comes after Tony Khan revealed that he has been dealing with major injuries following a physically demanding run throughout 2026. During Thursday’s Redemption media call, Khan gave MJF credit for continuing to wrestle despite those injuries. He also made it clear that AEW wants him back once he is healthy enough to compete. Khan praised MJF for pushing through the pain during his latest AEW World Championship reign.
“MJF isn’t a nice guy or a good person, but he’s a great wrestler. We love to have him when he’s healthy and fit to compete.”
“I give MJF a lot of credit for fighting through some major injuries this year.”
Questions about a possible Redemption appearance grew after Khan refused to confirm whether MJF was originally scheduled to face Kenny Omega at the show. A TSN commercial had suggested Omega would challenge for the AEW World Championship instead of defending it, but Khan kept his answer vague. Khan also defended the direction AEW ultimately chose for the pay-per-view.
“I have to keep some sleight of hand in these things. I feel we have made the right moves.”
MJF last wrestled on the July 8 episode of AEW Dynamite: Beach Break in Clearwater, Florida. He lost the AEW World Championship to Omega, ending his third reign after 45 days. Omega will now defend the title against Kevin Knight at Redemption while MJF remains away from the ring.
