Shelton Benjamin and Michin apparently had to explain something they never thought would need explaining. After Benjamin posted photos with the woman he considers his sister, bizarre comments started suggesting the two were dating—and neither of them had much patience for it.
Benjamin uploaded the photos to Instagram on August 12 after spending time with Michin in Las Vegas. Their friendship has long involved the two publicly roasting each other, and his caption was no different.
“Sorry Las Vegas. No gambling for me. Seeing @miayimofficial is the equivalent to crapping out Clearly luck is not with me so i will avoid the Vegas Casino.”
Apparently, some people completely missed the joke. Comments began popping up suggesting Benjamin and Michin were romantically involved. Benjamin eventually saw enough and took to Twitter to shut the speculation down himself.
“Me reading IG comments from people believing @MiaYim and I are dating, Y’all so stupid….and gross.”
Michin wasn’t far behind. She responded to the strange assumptions by making it clear that she sees no reason a friendship between a man and woman should automatically be treated as something romantic.
“If you think men and women can’t just be friends, it tells me you’re immature and insecure.”
It’s also not the first time Michin has had to make that exact point recently. Back in July, after confirming that she and Keith Lee had divorced but remained friends, someone told her that men and women couldn’t simply be friends. Michin responded by calling the person “very insecure.”
At the time, she had already made it clear that there wasn’t some ugly public feud behind the end of her marriage.
“We both are still friends and got nothing but love for each other. Go outside, get some sun, drink some water, and have a good day 💙.”
A month later, she somehow found herself having essentially the same argument again—this time because she took some pictures with Shelton Benjamin.
Benjamin considers Michin his sister. Their social media posts have been built around jokingly insulting each other for years. But after some fans somehow turned that into dating speculation, Benjamin called the idea “stupid” and “gross,” while Michin had a much simpler diagnosis: immature and insecure.
