Mercedes Moné is still dealing with a broken nose, and even surgery hasn’t completely fixed the problem. The AEW Women’s World Champion revealed the surprising update after successfully defending her title against Thekla at AEW WrestleDream on October 17, 2026.
During the WrestleDream post-show media scrum, Moné revealed that she underwent nose surgery about a month and a half ago. The problem? Her nose is still broken, and she’s been pushing through the injury while continuing to wrestle. Moné explained that the injury hasn’t stopped her from competing, even though she’s still recovering from the procedure.
“But yeah, I’m one month and a half post-surgery on my nose. It’s still very much broken, and I’m pushing through every single week but I love what I do, I love defending my Women’s Championship, and I’m here to be the best, and just having a broken nose, it’s not gonna faze me; it’s not gonna stop me, it’s not gonna stop me from defending this, and this is my destiny so I’m ready to give everything that I have for it.”
The injury dates back to AEW All In, where Moné defeated Willow Nightingale to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship. She suffered the broken nose during that match and didn’t return to in-ring competition until late September.
espite the injury, Moné still considers her championship victory at Wembley Stadium one of the biggest moments of her wrestling career.
“It was definitely one of the hardest-fought battles I’ve ever had and one of my greatest matches and greatest moments in my whole career. I love, love that moment at Wembley. Just a full circle moment for me as well.”
Moné’s latest comments make it clear that she’s not interested in letting the injury slow her down. She has already returned to the ring, successfully defended her championship at WrestleDream and continues to compete despite admitting that her nose hasn’t fully healed.
What makes this even more interesting is that Moné didn’t provide any timeline for when her nose might be completely healed. She also didn’t indicate that she plans to take additional time away from wrestling.
For now, Mercedes Moné is keeping her championship reign going while dealing with an injury that surgery hasn’t fully resolved. She’s already made it clear that a broken nose won’t stop her from defending the title, but the big question is how long she can keep going before the injury becomes a bigger issue.
