Mercedes Moné isn’t shy about where she thinks AEW’s women stand in the wrestling world, because she believes the company has the best women’s division ever.
While speaking to the Daily Star, Moné was asked about the atmosphere inside AEW’s women’s locker room and whether the talent really pushes each other behind the scenes. According to Moné, that competition carries directly into the ring because every opponent brings something different and forces her to step up.
“I feel like anytime I’m in the ring with one of them, they push me because they always bring something so different and a fire that I’m like, ‘All right, I can’t slow down and I can’t hold back because they want this and they train to be the best.’”
Moné didn’t stop there. She took things a step further and flat-out declared AEW’s women’s division the best ever, saying the roster is filled with women who are ready to throw down whenever they get the opportunity.
“I feel like we have the best women’s division ever. I love stepping into the ring with all of them, and all of them can just throw down and just want to throw down and be the best.”
The AEW star also made it clear that she believes the women deserve the same opportunities as the men. For Moné, the goal isn’t simply to have a strong women’s division — it’s to have the women treated like top-level wrestlers across the board.
“The women are the best wrestlers here too, and they want to have the same opportunity as the men. So, it feels like nothing different, but it feels like we’re pushing each other to be the best.”
Moné has never been short on confidence when talking about her own place in women’s wrestling, and now she’s putting that same confidence behind AEW’s entire division. With the roster continuing to fight for bigger matches and more television time, she clearly believes the talent is already there.
Whether fans agree that AEW has the best women’s division ever is another story, but Moné has made her position crystal clear and doesn’t sound interested in backing away from it.
