Maya World might not be gone for nearly as long as originally expected. After reports suggested the AEW and ROH star could be sidelined for a couple of months following a recent procedure, it looks like there could be a much more optimistic timeline.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez addressed Dave Meltzer’s report that Maya could miss a couple of months. He pointed to a recent exchange between Britt Baker and Maya World on social media before explaining why he believes the recovery could end up being much shorter.
“Dave wrote the belief that Maya World is out of action for a couple of months. Britt Baker on Twitter wrote, ‘Get well soon if this is true, Maya World.’ Maya responded, ‘You and Perse just don’t want your back for “months.”‘”
Alvarez explained that Maya did undergo a procedure, but reminded listeners that AEW television is presenting her absence as part of an ongoing storyline involving Britt Baker.
“So, she did have a procedure, but the storyline is that she’s out of action because Britt Baker beat her up. Britt’s was a sarcastic promo, and Maya’s response was ‘months’ in parentheses.”
He then revealed that he’s heard rumors within AEW about what the procedure actually was, but chose not to identify it out of respect for Maya’s wishes.
“So, all I can tell you is, my understanding is what the procedure was is rumored in AEW. I won’t say the procedure because Maya doesn’t want it out.”
Based on what he’s heard, Alvarez believes the recovery period would be much shorter than the “couple of months” that had been reported.
“So, if it’s what it’s rumored to be, then she could be back in a few weeks. Looking at the recovery for what the procedure is, it would only be four to six weeks, and she’s been out since the 9th, so she could be back fairly soon.”
Maya World has been off AEW television since September 9, but this latest update suggests her return might not be as far away as fans originally thought. While she’ll still need to be medically cleared before stepping back into the ring, there’s now a realistic chance she could be back on AEW programming much sooner than expected.
