Maya World is officially cleared to get back in the ring, and her recovery didn’t take nearly as long as some expected. The former TBS Champion confirmed the news during the AEW WrestleDream on October 17, 2026 Buy-In preshow, putting an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding her status.
World appeared as a guest during the WrestleDream Buy-In, which was hosted by Renee Paquette, Jeff Jarrett and R.J. City. During her appearance, she announced that she has officially been medically cleared to compete, meaning her latest absence is finally over.
The news comes after World had been sidelined since September 9, when she last competed on AEW Dynamite. Her absence raised concerns after Dave Meltzer indicated she could potentially miss a couple of months following a medical procedure.
However, Bryan Alvarez recently suggested on Wrestling Observer Live that her recovery could be significantly shorter than originally expected. He explained that although World had undergone a procedure, he had heard information suggesting the recovery period could be closer to four to six weeks. Alvarez also made it clear that he wouldn’t disclose the specific procedure because World didn’t want those details made public.
Meanwhile, AEW had incorporated her absence into an ongoing storyline involving Britt Baker. The two even exchanged messages on social media, with World appearing to push back on the suggestion that she would be gone for several months.
World’s return to action could also have major implications for the TBS Championship picture. She previously held the title for 35 days before losing it at AEW All In, where Britt Baker interfered and aligned herself with Persephone. Persephone currently holds the championship and is scheduled to defend it in a four-way match against Queen Aminata, Dani Luna and Hyan at WrestleDream. Hyan also happens to be World’s tag team partner, giving the former champion a personal connection to the title match.
While World hasn’t announced when she’ll wrestle her first match since being cleared, she’s now officially available for AEW to bring back into the mix. Considering her unfinished business with Britt Baker and Persephone, there are plenty of directions the company could take now that she’s ready to compete again.
What do you think about Maya World getting cleared to return so soon? Should AEW immediately put her back into the TBS Championship picture, or should she settle her issues with Britt Baker first? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
