Matt Cardona reinvented himself after WWE released him during the pandemic, but Cardona recently made it clear he is surprised WWE hasn’t brought him back. This led to a ton of backlash from fans and now Cardona has addressed the same.
Matt Cardona took to Twitter and addressed fans who accused him of begging to return to WWE. He said he likes using social media and being part of the wrestling community online, even if it means getting both good and bad reactions.
The former WWE Superstar pointed out that he recently did a one-hour interview with Chris Van Vliet and got a lot of positive feedback from people who listened to the full conversation.
However, he also noted that many fans focused only on a short one-minute clip where he mentioned reaching out to the wrestling company he grew up watching, worked for over a decade, and where his wife is currently signed. He was surprised by the backlash and joked that people acted like he said something really terrible.
“I love social media and the internet wrestling community. You gotta take the good with the bad, right? I just did an hour long interview with @ChrisVanVliet . I’ve received so much great feedback from fans who listened to the entire thing. I’ve received so much negativity and hate for a one minute clip where I said (…wait for it) that I reached out to a wrestling company that I grew up watching, worked at for 14 years, and where my wife works. You would have thought I said….well something REALLY bad! Haha.”
This comes after Matt Cardona said he was surprised he hadn’t returned to WWE yet. He felt like something might be missing, but he wasn’t sure what it was. After big shows like WrestleMania and WrestleCon, lots of fans asked him when he was coming back. Even at his hotel during WrestleMania weekend, WWE staff and other wrestlers were asking the same thing.
Cardona said he had reached out to WWE a few times over the years, especially when he was doing something exciting. But no one had offered him a chance to return. Everyone he talked to had been nice and respectful, but WWE hadn’t shown any interest. Even then, Cardona said he would keep working hard no matter what.
“Honestly? Yeah. But obviously I’m missing something, I don’t know what it is. Listen, people say to me all the time, especially since we just had WrestleMania, WrestleCon. Thousands of people, probably every other fan, if not every fan. ‘When are you coming back?’ Well, it’s not up to me. Or at the WrestleMania Hotel. Thanks, Chelsea for letting me stay in a hotel room for free. Saved me some money. Great hotel. Great Steakhouse, too.
But so many people from the office or other wrestling, ‘Hey, man, when are you coming back?’ It’s like, I don’t know. I’ve reached out many times. I should say many, a few times, every couple months when something cool happens or I have something to say, hey, look what I’m doing. There’s been no offer. Everything’s very nice, professional, but there’s no offer. And you know what, it is what it is, I’m gonna keep working my ass off.”
We will have to wait and see whether Matt Cardona will ever make his way back to WWE, as it’s very clear he sees it as his end goal, even if many people think he is being pathetic for constantly wanting to go back there.
