The women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament is moving forward, and now Athena vs. Maya World is officially set.
AEW announced on Saturday that Athena will face Maya World in the semifinals on on the June 20th episode of AEW Collision in Sugar Land, Texas. The winner will move on to the tournament finals.
This comes after things got heated between Athena and World on this week’s Collision. World cut a promo after her surprise win over Skye Blue on Dynamite. World said Athena taught her everything, but she plans to use those lessons to reach the finals. Athena fired back by saying she felt bad about World’s brother, but then turned the focus back to herself. She made it clear that World may be the “It Girl,” but that does not mean she is not still living in Athena’s world.
Later in the show, Athena defeated Tiara James in a quick match. After the bell, Athena continued attacking James until Maya World ran out to make the save. World checked on James, but Athena returned to the ring and attacked her from behind. Athena then drove World face-first into the ROH Women’s Championship, adding even more heat before their tournament match.
AEW Collision’s June 20 lineup now includes:
- Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Semifinal: Athena vs. Maya World
Athena and Maya World now have a lot more than a tournament spot on the line. After their Collision confrontation, this semifinal has become personal fast.
