AEW All In is only two days away, and Wembley Stadium suddenly has a pretty serious situation unfolding nearby. A massive fire has broken out at an industrial estate less than a mile from the stadium, sending huge clouds of smoke into the air and causing disruption to Tube services around Wembley.
According to MyLondon, the fire broke out on Hannah Close in Neasden on August 28, with the London Fire Brigade receiving the first call at 11:34 AM. Things escalated quickly from there, with more than 70 calls eventually coming into the Brigade’s control room.
This wasn’t a small fire either. Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters were sent to the industrial estate, while three 32-metre ladders were also brought in to help deal with the blaze. The amount of smoke became enough of a concern that residents in the immediate area were told to stay inside where possible and keep their doors and windows closed.
Then came the part that could matter for wrestling fans this weekend. The fire has already impacted the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines, two Tube lines that serve the Wembley area. That’s obviously some pretty terrible timing.
AEW is set to take over Wembley Stadium on August 30 for All In, meaning thousands of wrestling fans will soon be making their way into the same part of London. Still, there’s an important distinction here.
The fire is not at Wembley Stadium, and there’s currently nothing indicating that the stadium itself has been affected or that All In is in danger of being cancelled or postponed. Right now, the potential concern for AEW fans is what happens around the area, particularly if transportation problems continue into the weekend.
The cause of the fire also remains unknown. So AEW hasn’t suddenly lost Wembley two days before All In. But having 125 firefighters battling a huge blaze less than a mile away while Tube services around the area are being disrupted certainly isn’t the kind of last-minute headache anyone wanted heading into one of the company’s biggest shows of the year.
