AAA didn’t just bring back Perros del Mal out of nowhere, as we now know how they managed to use the faction’s name in the first place.
According to False Finish, the company received the blessing from the family of Perro Aguayo Jr. before using the legendary faction name on AAA programming during the June 20th edition of AAA on FOX.
That is a big deal because Perros del Mal is not just any faction name in AAA history. The group was famously led by Hijo del Perro Aguayo, who tragically passed away in 2015 at just 35 years old. Because of that legacy, bringing the name back was always going to be sensitive.
The return happened during the June 20 episode of AAA from Mérida, Mexico. El Grande Americano had just thanked Mexico and set his sights on Dominik Mysterio’s AAA Mega Championship when Karmen Petrovic appeared as a distraction. Then Daga, Angel Garza, Humberto Carrillo, and Bronco Nima jumped him from behind.
After the beatdown, the group unzipped their sweatshirts and revealed the Perros del Mal name. Daga brings a direct connection as an original member, while Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo carry family ties through Hector Garza. Petrovic and Nima round out the new version as the group’s female presence and powerhouse.
At the end of the day, AAA/WWE reviving Perros del Mal is a major move, but getting the Aguayo family’s blessing makes it feel a lot more respectful. Now the pressure is on this new version to live up to one of AAA’s most important faction names.
