Lucha libre veteran Solar II, real name Pedro Buenrostro Gomez, has died at the age of 66.
The longtime CMLL wrestler had been dealing with health problems in recent days before his family confirmed his passing. His brother, Solar I, announced the news in a statement shared by the family, remembering both the wrestler and the man behind the mask.
“With deep regret and immense pain, we communicate the death of Pedro Buenrostro, ‘Solar Segundo,’ dear brother, family member and friend.”
Solar II’s career stretched back more than five decades. He made his professional wrestling debut in 1975 and spent the majority of his career competing for CMLL, establishing himself as a familiar name in Mexican wrestling.
One of the biggest accomplishments of his career came in 1988 when he captured the NWA World Welterweight Championship. His career eventually reached its final chapter in 2002, the same year he lost both his mask and his hair before retiring from the ring.
CMLL paid tribute to Solar II on August 23, holding a moment of silence before its event in honor of the veteran luchador and his contributions to the business. Solar II leaves behind a career that spanned generations of lucha libre and a legacy that will be remembered by the fans and wrestlers who followed his journey.
