Brock Lesnar became a top WWE star soon after joining the main roster in 2002, but he isn’t without his fair share of controversies and that includes his involvement in the infamous Plane Ride from Hell. With that said, it appears a longstanding rumor concerning Lesnar has now been debunked.
On May 5, 2002, after WWE’s Insurrextion event in London, Brock Lesnar got into a fight with Curt Hennig on an airplane. Over time, people have told different versions of the story, with some saying they almost broke the emergency exit door.
While speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL, who was present during the incident, dismissed the claim, stating that there was never a real danger of them going through the emergency exit. No one, including the pilot, was ever worried about an emergency at all.
“Curt had boots on, Brock was barefoot, and Curt stomped him with his heel on Brock’s barefoot, and Brock goes [screams], throws him over his head. But, in my opinion, there was never a concern about them going through the emergency exit. Never. Not one. I was standing right beside it. The captain didn’t come back and say, ‘Oh my God, you’re gonna go out the emergency exit.’ None of that happened.”
Brock Lesnar has not appeared in WWE since his match against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023, and there are no signs of him returning anytime soon. While he has not been accused of any wrongdoing, his name was mentioned in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. This connection was enough for WWE to step away from the former Universal Champion.
JBL’s firsthand experience confirms that the fight between Lesnar and Hennig was never a real danger to the flight. However, with Lesnar’s WWE future unclear, fans are left wondering if or when The Beast Incarnate will make his return to the ring.
