Liv Morgan was apparently much closer to landing a major Hollywood role than fans ever realized. According to a former talent agent who worked closely with WWE stars, Morgan was in serious contention to play Cammy in the upcoming Street Fighter movie before her shoulder injury changed everything.

Speaking on Duke Loves Wrestling, former Paradigm talent agent Nick Lopiccolo revealed that Morgan had already met with executives at Legendary Entertainment multiple times. He believes there was a very good chance she would have landed the role if she hadn’t gotten hurt.

“The sad thing is, and the unfortunate thing is, I don’t know that, again, I don’t necessarily want to bring this up and cause any hurt feelings, but if Liv Morgan didn’t tear her shoulder at the time that she tore her shoulder, I think the chances would be very, very high that she would have been in the movie as Cammy, and I don’t know that Cody would be in the movie at all.”

Lopiccolo said Morgan, whom he referred to by her real name, Gionna, was excited about the opportunity and had already met with Legendary executive Cale Boyter two or three times. However, her injury became a major obstacle because she still wasn’t medically cleared to do physical work when filming was taking place in Australia.

He also explained that getting WWE talent approved for the movie wasn’t as straightforward as fans might think. According to Lopiccolo, Boyter had already worked hard to convince the studio to sign off on Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, so adding a third WWE star was always going to be a difficult sell.

“That tricep tear, you know, Gionna’s awesome. We love her to death, and, you know, it’s something that we really wanted. She really wanted it. Met with the studio, met with Cale two or three times. And look, the studio, Cale fought tooth and nail to get both Cody and Roman approved by his financiers, by his board of directors, by whatever it is, because, you know, they were looking at this through the conversations, okay, I’ll have with myself and Andrew at Paradigm, as, okay, so what? There’s two WWE wrestlers in it. So they would have put three in, and by the way, Liv was still not cleared to come back and compete or do anything physical at the time that they were filming this movie. They filmed it in Australia. That’s a hard sell.”

Whether Liv Morgan would have officially landed the role will never be known, but Lopiccolo clearly believes her injury changed the conversation. If he’s right, one unfortunate setback may have reshaped not only Morgan’s Hollywood opportunity, but the Street Fighter cast as a whole.
