Liv Morgan grew up thinking Cory Matthews was the ultimate boyfriend on Boy Meets World — but adulthood absolutely destroyed that illusion. The WWE star says watching the classic sitcom again as a grown woman completely changed how she sees Cory and Topanga’s relationship, and she now considers the character manipulative, toxic and a full-blown gaslighter.

During her appearance on Hot Ones with Sean Evans, Morgan was asked to explain why Boy Meets World is more than simple nostalgia for her and why she believes the show still holds up. Liv said she can still enjoy the series, but she definitely doesn’t watch Cory Matthews through the same eyes she did growing up. Morgan remembered once thinking Cory was incredibly romantic and believing Topanga choosing him instead of attending Yale was proof of their great love story. That opinion did not survive Liv getting older.

“It’s just, like, a show for the times, ‘Boy Meets World’, but you know I do watch it back and I have a complete different perspective of it than I did watching it. Like I remember I thought Cory was, like, so romantic, such a good guy, great guy for Topanga, like when she chose not to go to Yale and choose Cory, I was like, ‘Yeah, like, love.’”

“But now when I watch it back as a grown woman, I’m like, ‘This man is manipulative. He’s toxic. He’s gaslighting the shit out of her.’ Bitch, you’re not gonna go to Yale for Cory?”

Liv said her perspective on Boy Meets World has changed, although she still understands why the series remains so memorable. For Morgan, it sits alongside other coming-of-age shows that became attached to an entire era of growing up.

“And so I feel like my perspective of it has changed but I think it was just one of those shows. Like, ‘Saved by the Bell’, just like nostalgic, group of friends.”

Sean Evans described it as a coming-of-age show, which Morgan agreed with before bringing up another television favorite.

“Coming-of-age. Like ‘The Wonder Years’. Do you watch ‘The Wonder Years’?”

Liv Morgan may still love Boy Meets World, but Cory Matthews apparently lost a major fan somewhere between childhood and adulthood. What once looked romantic to her now looks like a giant collection of red flags, especially when it comes to Topanga potentially giving up Yale for him.

Do you agree with Liv Morgan’s adult take on Cory and Topanga, or do you think she’s being too hard on Cory Matthews? Drop your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
