Liv Morgan Admits She Might Not Have Made It in WWE If She Started Today

Liv Morgan is one of WWE’s biggest stars now, but she isn’t pretending she walked into the company as some wrestling prodigy. In fact, Morgan says if she had entered WWE under today’s developmental environment instead of getting her shot back in 2014, there is a very real chance she wouldn’t have survived the cut.

While appearing on Hot Ones with Sean Evans, Morgan was asked whether growing up as a die-hard WWE fan actually gave her an advantage once she finally stepped into the wrestling world. Liv admitted she thought years of watching WWE meant she was going to walk into training and immediately kill it, but reality hit hard.

Morgan said she had been obsessed with WWE since she was five years old and genuinely believed that passion was going to translate into instant success once she got her opportunity.

“For me, like, no advantage. Such the illusion of an advantage. I thought I was gonna walk in there and be a natural. I thought I was gonna absolutely kill it. I’ve been a fan since I was five years old, like, eat, sleep, breathe, loved WWE. Would come home from school, take a nap, and if I missed five minutes it, I’m waking up crying and screaming. Like, I was obsessed with WWE. I thought when I started, I was gonna be champion in, like, a year.”

Liv quickly discovered that loving wrestling and actually learning how to wrestle were two completely different things. She admitted the process was brutally difficult before explaining why she believes the timing of her WWE arrival may have saved her career.

“I was like, ‘This is gonna be,’ not a piece of cake but I was like, ‘This is my life.’ So hard. And I feel like back then, you were given a lot of grace. Like, they would give you awhile to try to get good so I’m so grateful that I started when I did ’cause I think if I started now, I don’t think I would’ve made the cut ’cause they gave me a lot of time to develop and train and learn.”

That admission hits differently considering where Morgan’s career eventually went. Ringside News previously covered Morgan breaking down just how demanding WWE tryouts can be, including the physical drills, bumping and promo work that can eliminate hopefuls before they ever receive a contract.

Her early WWE years weren’t glamorous after she did get signed, either. Morgan recently revealed that she sometimes had only $6 left during her NXT days, showing just how far removed those developmental years were from the championship-level career she eventually built.

Liv Morgan made it through because WWE gave her something she believes she might not receive if she walked through the doors today — time. The company allowed her to struggle, learn and eventually figure things out, and Morgan clearly understands that her entire career could have looked very different if that runway had been shorter.

Would Liv Morgan have become the WWE star she is today if she entered the developmental system in 2026, or do you think her talent would have eventually broken through anyway? Drop your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
