Laynie Luck is leaving WWE ID, and the bigger story may be that people inside WWE apparently didn’t see it coming. Luck’s contract is expiring this week and won’t be renewed, but the decision was viewed as a surprise by WWE sources after she spent nearly a year as one of the most visible women in the entire ID program.

According to Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that Luck’s WWE ID deal is expiring this week and WWE decided not to renew it. The reaction inside the company stood out because Luck had just finished a 320-day run as WWE ID Women’s Champion before dropping the title to Monica Monroe. It was noted that the move caught some WWE sources off guard.

“The decision was seen as a surprise within WWE from sources that we spoke to.”

That surprise makes more sense when looking at how heavily Luck was used during her time with WWE ID. She became the second-ever WWE ID Women’s Champion in November 2025 and held the title for 320 days before losing it to Monroe last weekend. Luck had already addressed her departure herself, and she certainly didn’t sound crushed about becoming a free agent.

It also noted that independent promoters spoke highly of Luck during her championship run, specifically praising her willingness to work with different opponents and help guide matches when needed.

Luck may be leaving the ID program, but she could still be seen on WWE programming for a while. Because WWE Evolve is taped in advance, Fightful noted that Luck is likely to continue appearing on television for months even after her deal expires.

Luck will officially become a free agent today and she’s already talking like she expects plenty of options. After spending most of the last year carrying WWE ID gold, her next move now becomes one to watch.

What do you make of WWE choosing not to renew Laynie Luck’s deal despite the decision surprising people inside the company? Do you think another major promotion should move quickly to sign her? Let us know what you think in the comments.
