Chris Benoit’s name is still surrounded by conspiracy theories nearly two decades after the deaths of his wife and son, and Lars Sullivan has apparently heard enough of them. The former WWE star is now calling out the people who tried to defend Benoit—and even those who attempted to pin the killings on Kevin Sullivan.
The subject came up after a fan on Twitter compared reactions to Benoit with the ongoing Lindsay Clancy case. Clancy killed her three young children in 2023, but has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. The fan argued that despite Benoit having millions of male wrestling fans, people didn’t sympathize with him after he killed his family.
“He had millions of male fans, and none of us empathized with him after he killed his family. You Clancy chicks are just weird.”
Lars immediately pushed back on that. According to him, the idea that nobody defended Benoit simply isn’t true. He remembers plenty of people attempting to explain away what happened after Benoit killed his wife Nancy and their son Daniel before taking his own life in June 2007.
“Na, there were definitely some wack jobs defending him after he murdered 1 of his kids and wife.”
Then he brought up the craziest example. For years, a conspiracy theory has floated around certain corners of the wrestling world claiming Kevin Sullivan, Nancy Benoit’s former husband, was somehow responsible for the deaths. There has never been credible evidence supporting that theory, and authorities concluded Benoit committed the killings before taking his own life. Lars clearly isn’t entertaining it.
“They even tried blaming Kevin Sullivan.”
He then took a shot at wrestling fans in general, arguing that the fanbase isn’t somehow immune from the same kind of thinking being criticized in the original post, claiming they are just as idiotic as the average female.
“Wrestling fans are just as idiotic as the average female.”
Benoit’s final days have been picked apart endlessly since 2007, but Lars isn’t interested in reopening the case or entertaining alternative theories. As far as he’s concerned, the fans who tried defending Benoit or somehow dragging Kevin Sullivan into it were simply “wack jobs.”
