The pro wrestling world has a lot of inspiring stories, but few are as powerful as Kurt Angle. During his days when he was in the throw of addiction, it cost him a ton of money, and so much more. Now, he is speaking up about something that reminds him about that time in his life.

Kurt Angle logged onto X, where he posted a message for fans. He sees that a nickname for him that he would like to forget is trending, and that brings back bad memories.

The WWE Hall of Famer went on to explain that the memories from that time in his life were painful to go through, and they hurt when he thinks of them. He has battled addiction, which is something that destroys lives. He concluded his message by thanking fans for sticking by him, because they have been there for him through it all.

“I’ve noticed the ‘Perc Angle’ nickname trending on social media. While I know it’s made in jest, it reminds me of a time when I struggled deeply with addiction and mental health challenges. Those memories are painful, but they also fuel my commitment to helping others. I’ve been clean for 12 years and have since built a life dedicated to purpose and service. Addiction destroys lives, but it’s never too late to get help. I appreciate all the positive feedback and support. To my fans: thank you for never giving up on me. I love you all. -Kurt Angle”

At the time of his initial WWE release, Vince McMahon wanted to give Kurt Angle some time off, but he wasn’t interested in a lighter schedule upon his return. Angle only wanted a reduced schedule, and he had to leave WWE in order to find that time off. In the end, thankfully, he also found sobriety.

That drug addiction, and mounting injuries that only made things worse, led to a terrible parting of ways with WWE. The Olympic Gold Medalist is now on much better terms with WWE, as he did come back for a General Manager run years later.

We will have to see what is next for Kurt Angle. His career in the ring is finished, but he can still contribute in other ways. In the meantime, he is going to be a voice for those who may still be battling addiction, because he certainly made it through some dark times.
