Kota Ibushi has offered another update on his recovery after suffering a brutal injury during a recent match on AEW Dynamite.

The Japanese wrestling icon broke his femur in a terrifying moment that brought his match against Josh Alexander to a sudden stop. AEW officials and medical staff rushed to his side as fans watched in stunned silence. He was stretchered out of the arena, and it was later confirmed he had suffered a broken femur and required surgery.

In a new post shared to Instagram on Wednesday, Ibushi revealed he had just undergone his final medical inspection and had 42 surgical staples removed.

“Ok last inspection today! And up to my waist I pulled out 42 medical staples! Now I can go home! It was nice until, but well reality is reality.”

While initial recovery may take 8–12 months, Ibushi mentioned that getting his body fully ready for in-ring return could stretch to two years.

“Femur fracture and personal life will be fine in 8-12 months. From there, I’ve gotten my body back in full swing and putting in ring practice and so on, I’d better see it for 2 years. Pretty unexpected but that was said for the beginning and I’m only day 18 post op!”

He also addressed confusion surrounding a video of him moving around, clarifying that it wasn’t him trying to train too early—but rather a simple misunderstanding.

“Meeting with AEW doctor at the hospital today for the first time in a long time since post op. Are you already squatting with weights the moment we meet!? I didn’t do it! I didn’t know what I was talking about, but I thought it was a standing and sitting video, so I showed it.”

Ibushi pushed back on rumors that he’s training with weights, making it clear that such activity would be unsafe this soon after surgery.

“Well that was a little early, but normal. I’m so relieved, I heard you’re doing squats and lunges with weights. You can’t and won’t do that with a fractured femur. I thought this kind of story would grow up quickly, and at the same time I learned how scared the internet was.”

While Ibushi’s AEW return is still far off, fans can take comfort knowing he’s in recovery and remaining positive—despite the long road ahead.
