Kevin Owens missed one of the biggest nights of Sami Zayn’s career, and it clearly hit him hard.

Sami Zayn finally became WWE Champion after defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match. It was the kind of moment fans had been waiting years to see, and Owens made it clear he badly wished he could have been there in person.

Owens is currently out with a neck injury, and he said that injury has already forced him to miss plenty over the last 15 months. But Sami winning the WWE Championship topped the list.

“I’ve missed a lot of things I wish I hadn’t in the last 15 months because of this injury but today is, by far, the one I wish I had been there for the most.”

Owens then gave Sami his flowers, saying Zayn has brought out the best in him whether they were fighting each other or standing side-by-side.

“He has brought out the best in me as both an ally and a foe. That’s because he is THE best. When you’re consistently that good for that long, you become undeniable.”

Owens also said this was not some lucky break for Sami. In his eyes, this was always going to happen.

“Sami becoming WWE Champion was inevitable. He has deserved that moment for a very long time and I am so happy to see him finally get it.”

Owens also shared photos of himself and Sami from over the years, including one with a very ridiculous backstory. He said the final photo showed Sami helping him put on a sock in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere in Texas after Owens thought he had broken his back the night before.

“The last one is him putting on my sock in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere in Texas because I thought I had broken my back the night before and could not move. He had to help me put on my boxers too.”

That is Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a nutshell. They have beaten the hell out of each other, teamed together, won the WWE Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 39, and somehow stayed tied together through all of it.

Sami finally winning the WWE Championship was already emotional, but Owens’ reaction made it hit even harder. He could not be there because of his injury, but he still made sure everyone knew how much the moment meant.
