Kevin Nash didn’t pull “Big Daddy Cool” out of thin air—and the name had nothing to do with Big Daddy Kane. Nash has now revealed that the nickname came directly from WWE Hall of Famer Curt Hennig.

During an audience Q&A on the Kliq This podcast, Nash was asked whether he had been a Big Daddy Kane fan and if the rapper inspired the Diesel nickname. Nash immediately shut down that theory and gave Hennig full credit.

“No. Big Daddy Cool was what Curt Hennig called me. I got that nickname from Curt.”

That settled the origin of “Big Daddy Cool,” but Nash’s other famous nickname came from a completely different place. When the conversation shifted to “Big Sexy,” Nash revealed that nobody handed him that one. He created it himself because he wanted something simple that could move merchandise.

“I came up with that. I said, ‘F*ck, I’m just going to call myself sexy and sell some merch.’”

The plan clearly worked. “Big Daddy Cool” became attached to Nash during his run as Diesel, while “Big Sexy” followed him through WCW, the nWo and the rest of his career. Both names became part of his identity, even though they were created in completely different ways. Hennig gave Nash one nickname behind the scenes, while Nash created the other with merchandise in mind. Decades later, both remain instantly connected to one of the biggest stars of the Monday Night War.
