Kenny Omega’s appearance on AEW’s September 30 “A Tribute to PAC” edition of Dynamite wasn’t part of the original plan.
The former AEW World Champion reunited with The Elite alongside Hangman Page and The Young Bucks to defeat Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta of the Don Callis Family in an eight-man tag team match during the emotional tribute show. It marked Omega’s first appearance since AEW All In on August 30, where he lost the AEW World Championship to Will Ospreay.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega wasn’t even scheduled to be on the show when plans were first made. The report states that, according to one source, Omega flew in from Japan on short notice specifically so he could be part of AEW’s tribute to PAC.
Omega ultimately reunited with The Elite for the special occasion, helping his team pick up the victory after Hangman Page’s Buckshot Lariat, The Young Bucks’ BTE Trigger, and Omega’s One-Winged Angel put Trent Beretta away.
While AEW loaded the show with tributes, video packages and appearances honoring the late PAC, the report suggests Omega also went out of his way to make sure he was part of the night despite not originally being booked.
It was a fitting reunion for one of AEW’s signature groups on a show dedicated to celebrating one of the company’s original stars, and according to this report, Omega made a last-minute trip halfway around the world to help make it happen.
