Karmen Petrovic has finally explained the bizarre situation that led to false reports claiming she had died. The whole thing apparently happened after an exhausting weekend left her so drained that she went home, slept for 10 hours and woke up to find out the internet had somehow decided she was dead.

Speaking to No Holds Barred, Petrovic explained that the chaos came after an unusually packed stretch of work. She had competed at AAA’s Worlds Collide, traveled to the Virginia Military Institute for a WWE recruiting event and then returned for NXT TV, leaving her completely wiped out.

“It was just a crazy weekend. We had Worlds Collide, and then I had to go to VMI for the recruiting thing, and then we had NXT TV. So I was just like, ‘I’m going home. I need to sleep.’ So I went home, I think I went to bed at like 9:30, which is early for me because I’m a night owl. And I slept for like 10 hours.”

That long sleep turned out to be the source of a very strange surprise. When Petrovic finally woke up, her phone was going crazy with notifications, and she quickly realized people online had apparently started spreading the claim that she had passed away.

“I woke up and my phone was just blowing up, and I’m like, ‘What the hell happened?’ And then I’m getting all these notifications, and apparently I died. So I’m like, ‘Okay, let me check myself.’”

Petrovic could obviously confirm the reports were wrong pretty quickly, but that didn’t make the situation any less bizarre. She had simply gone home after a brutal run of work, got some much-needed sleep and somehow woke up to discover that the internet had written her obituary.

“I’m like, ‘I’m pretty sure I’m alive.’ I’m like, ‘I feel fine.’ So it was just really weird. I was like, ‘Okay, I guess this is what happens when I sleep for 10 hours.’”

The whole situation sounds ridiculous in hindsight, but Petrovic’s explanation makes it pretty clear there was no mystery behind her absence. She was simply exhausted, went to bed early and woke up to one of the strangest notifications imaginable.
