Kaitlyn doesn’t sound nearly as interested in a WWE in-ring return as she once did. After previously saying she was “totally open” to coming back for something like the Royal Rumble, the former Divas Champion now says she doesn’t think she’ll wrestle again because that desire simply isn’t there anymore.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Kaitlyn admitted that she hopes fans won’t be upset by her answer, but getting back into the ring isn’t something she’s particularly interested in. That doesn’t mean she’s fallen out of love with wrestling, though, as she still has plenty of respect for the business.
“I don’t really—I hope no one hates me for this—but, like, I don’t really want to get back in the ring. I respect wrestling a lot, and I find it very entertaining. And I love the artistry of it.”
In fact, Kaitlyn believes actually being a professional wrestler gave her an appreciation for the business that she probably never would’ve developed otherwise. She pointed out that there’s far more happening during a match than what fans see on the surface, from telling a story to keeping everyone involved safe.
“I don’t think I could ever have the appreciation that I have now if I had never been a professional wrestler, because there are so many aspects to the performance. There’s so many things to think about—the psychology of the match, connecting with people, telling a story with your face and your body, protecting your face and your body, protecting the person that you’re in the ring with, helping them perform to their best.”
Kaitlyn also brought up all the little things wrestlers have to keep track of while performing. Knowing where the cameras are, working within a time limit and changing things on the fly depending on the crowd are all part of what makes wrestling such a difficult art form in her eyes.
“Knowing where the cameras are, knowing how much time you have, being able to change it up if the people in the audience aren’t buying it, if they don’t care about it. There’s just so much to it. It’s such a beautiful art form.”
Despite that appreciation, Kaitlyn admitted she doesn’t really keep up with wrestling these days. She’ll occasionally check out a match involving someone she still knows or cares about, but watching regularly isn’t part of her life anymore.
“So I will always love it and deeply respect it. I don’t really watch it, but occasionally I will. If there’s someone that I’m still friends with or that I love, occasionally I’ll watch a match.”
Ultimately, Kaitlyn’s feelings about actually wrestling again are pretty simple. She doesn’t completely trash the idea, but she doesn’t have the urge that would make her want to start preparing for another run.
“But I just—I don’t know. I don’t think I am gonna get back in the ring because I don’t have this burning desire to do that.”
Bottom line: It now sounds like Kaitlyn may be perfectly comfortable leaving things there. Her respect for wrestling hasn’t disappeared, but as far as actually putting the boots back on goes, she simply doesn’t have the burning desire to make another comeback happen.
