One rumor about Kairi Sane’s WWE release has officially been put to rest. Ever since her release, fans have assumed Kairi packed her bags and immediately flew back to Japan. According to the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, that’s not what happened.

Speaking to ShuPro, Kairi revealed she actually remained in the United States for about two weeks after learning she had been released, quietly sticking to the same routine she had while competing on RAW instead of rushing home.

“About two weeks after getting the news of my release, I think. But even while still in America, I kept training as usual—workout routines at the gym, CrossFit, and so on. After all, I had been competing on RAW right up until just before that happened… You see, I have what I call a ‘three-year rule.'”

Eventually, though, she knew exactly where she wanted to be. It wasn’t about meeting with promoters or figuring out her next wrestling move. It was about going home. Kairi explained that after spending so much time living by herself in the United States, seeing her family again became the priority.

“Above all, I wanted to express my gratitude to my family and the people I hadn’t been able to see for so long. Living far away from family, I spent my entire time in America completely alone, and I was also thinking about my beloved dog.”

That didn’t mean she put wrestling on hold. Instead, she used WWE’s 90-day non-compete period to reset while continuing to prepare for whatever comes next. Rather than sitting around waiting for the restriction to expire, Kairi says she rented a ring and went back to basics.

“Exactly. There’s a rule that prevents me from doing matches or public appearances for 90 days after my release. Since you can’t change the past, I thought, ‘How should I spend this time to make these 90 days the happiest they can be for myself?’ So I rented a ring to practice the fundamentals from scratch, and so on.”

Those comments clear up a rumor that had lingered ever since her WWE departure. Back in April, reports claimed Kairi had returned to Japan after her release, leading many fans to believe she had left the United States immediately. According to Kairi herself, that wasn’t the case. She stayed for another two weeks, kept training like nothing had changed, and only headed home when she was ready.

Now that her non-compete has expired and promotions around the world are reportedly pursuing her, the waiting game has shifted from when Kairi returned to Japan to where she’ll wrestle next.
