Jonathan Coachman doesn’t think WWE needs to keep searching for the right formula with Jade Cargill. As far as he’s concerned, the company spent big money on her, it hasn’t worked, and it may be time to simply admit they “missed.”
While speaking on The Coach & Bro Show, Coachman questioned why WWE continues trying to find different ways to make Cargill work. He believes her look and the money invested in signing her are major reasons WWE remains committed to keeping her relevant.
“To me, this is where they need to figure out what they’re gonna do with the women. Because right now they continue to believe that Jade Cargill, because of how she looks and the fact that they spent big dollars to get her, they’re still trying to figure out, ‘How can we make her relevant? Can we make her a boss like Royce Keys with OTM?’”
Coachman thinks there comes a point where WWE has to stop worrying about how much money it already spent. In his eyes, Cargill simply hasn’t become what the company hoped it was paying for.
“I think you just gotta tell yourself, ‘We missed, and we might have spent seven figures on her, but we missed.’”
What makes it worse for Coachman is that he sees other women developing much faster around her. He specifically brought up Tatum Paxley, Fatal Influence and the talent coming through NXT while arguing that Cargill is falling behind where it matters.
“Because there are others like Tatum Paxley, Fatal Influence, all these NXT girls that are coming up—they are doing laps around her as far as character development is concerned.”
Cargill has had plenty of television time since joining WWE, but Coachman doesn’t believe enough has come from it. He questioned what she has actually accomplished during her run outside of doing interviews and holding a championship that he felt wasn’t defended enough.
“She’s been around for two or three years, and what has she done? She’s done some podcast interviews, she was a champion that didn’t defend her title, and that’s all she’s done.”
Coachman was even harder on Cargill when it came to her work inside the ring. Rather than seeing improvement over time, he claimed things have actually gone in the opposite direction.
“She has done nothing but botch up moves and get worse and worse and worse.”
That brought Coachman back to his biggest point. He doesn’t understand why WWE should keep Cargill in major women’s storylines simply because it has already invested so much in her.
“At some point, don’t you have to say, ‘You know what? We gotta cut our losses,’ and stop putting her in the upper echelon of the women’s storylines?”
WWE clearly isn’t ready to do that just yet. Cargill was featured prominently at Sunday Night’s Main Event, where she teamed with Michin and B-Fab against Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley. The match eventually came down to Flair and Paxley trying to lock Cargill and Michin in Figure Eight Leg Locks. They managed to fight their way out, giving Cargill the opening she needed to hit Jaded on Flair and score the win.
Pinning Charlotte Flair is hardly the kind of result WWE gives someone it’s preparing to move away from. If anything, Sunday night showed that the company still sees Cargill as an important part of its women’s division, even as Coachman argues that WWE should finally accept that the experiment hasn’t worked.
