Before Jon Moxley was headlining arenas for WWE and AEW, he was getting sliced up, smashed around and dragged through some of the nastiest independent wrestling matches in the country. Now that version of Moxley is getting its own documentary.
“I FOUGHT JON MOXLEY” drops October 13, 2026, and the whole thing is built around the blood-soaked indie run that made Moxley a name before the big companies ever came calling.
Stonecutter Media Ltd. is releasing the 80-minute film in select theaters and across major cable and digital platforms. The official trailer is already up on YouTube, and it makes one thing pretty clear — this isn’t about the polished TV version of Moxley.
This is about the guy who was willing to get ugly. The documentary digs into Moxley’s years on the independent scene, including his time around CZW and the brutal matches that helped build the reputation he still carries today.
The film was directed by Brendan Amoruso and written by Maven T. Bentley, with DJ Hyde, Nick Gage, Rich Swann, Mickie Knuckles, Big F’n Joe, Larry Legend, Eran Ashe and Gary Walter all appearing. Veteran promoter Steve Karel came out of retirement to help put the project together, and he says there was only one way to properly honor where Moxley came from.
“There was only one way to properly send this film into the world, and salute Jon back where it all started, in the ring. This is a celebration of where he came from and what he built before the world knew his name.”
Karel is also getting back into the wrestling business beyond the documentary. Stonecutter Event Promotions is planning live televised wrestling under the CZW and UWF banners, with the whole pitch centered around bringing back the kind of wild indie energy that made Moxley stand out in the first place. Maven T. Bentley, David Markland, Kee Min and George Zouvelos are producing the documentary, while Markland and Karel are serving as executive producers.
Moxley has been Dean Ambrose, a WWE World Champion, an AEW World Champion and one of the biggest names of his generation. But before all of that, he was just a guy willing to bleed, brawl and go further than most people around him.
That’s the Moxley this movie is selling. “I FOUGHT JON MOXLEY” will be available worldwide beginning October 13, 2026.
Moxley’s whole career was built on looking like the guy who might actually lose his mind in the middle of a fight, and this documentary is going straight back to the years when that reputation was still being earned the hard way.
