Marvel may have accidentally created Johnny Gargano’s comic-book twin. The WWE star spotted the newest mutant introduced in The Uncanny X-Men, and the resemblance was too close for him to ignore.
On August 27, 2026, Gargano took to Twitter after getting a look at Repent, a new X-Men character dressed in black-and-red gear. The mutant’s dark hair, facial hair, color scheme and overall appearance immediately reminded Gargano of someone he sees in the mirror every day. Gargano tagged Marvel and pointed out that something about its newest creation looked extremely familiar.
“The newest X-Men comic just introduced a new mutant named REPENT, and hold on a minute, @Marvel!”
The comic artwork shows Repent dressed in black with red armor and chains wrapped around his body. He also has dark hair, a beard and the kind of intense pose that wouldn’t look out of place on WWE television. Gargano didn’t directly accuse Marvel of copying him, but he didn’t need to spell it out. The picture sitting underneath his message made his point for him.
The resemblance becomes even harder to miss when Gargano’s wrestling history is taken into account. Black-and-red gear has been a regular part of his presentation, and Repent’s sharp facial hair and serious expression only add to the comparison.
Marvel has not explained whether Gargano played any role in the character’s design, but the WWE star clearly wants answers. At the very least, Repent may already have the perfect wrestler lined up if the character ever makes it into a live-action X-Men project.
Do you think Repent looks like Johnny Gargano, or is the resemblance being blown out of proportion? Let us know what you think and leave your feedback in the comments.
