John Cena may be retired from in-ring competition, but he’s perfectly happy to let one part of his WWE legacy live on through someone else.

Speaking to PelucheEn ElEstuche, Cena reflected on how much he still misses wrestling and admitted he thinks about it every day. At the same time, he said retiring was the right decision because his body simply couldn’t keep up with the demands of preparing for and recovering from matches anymore. He also praised WWE’s current roster, saying the company is in good hands with so many talented performers.

The conversation eventually shifted to Cena’s iconic entrance music, which has become one of the most recognizable themes in wrestling history. Laughing about how memorable the song is, Cena admitted it’s the kind of tune that sticks with people.

“Yo, yeah. Yeah, man. What a—what a catchy tune. I mean, that just sticks with you. Sticks to the ribs. A classic.”

When the interviewer called the song a classic, the 17-time World Champion couldn’t resist making a joke about his own retirement: “Well, then it was time for me to retire ’cause it’s a classic.” Cena was then asked whether he considers it the greatest entrance theme in wrestling history. Instead of making that claim, he explained that it simply means the most to him because it was the theme he used for the majority of his career and the one fans identify with him the most.

“For me, it was. I don’t know if I could—I’ve had a few different entrance themes. Yeah, that was the one I had the longest, and I think that’s the one that made the best impression. I like it, for me.”

Then came the most surprising part of the conversation. The interviewer asked what he’d think if a younger WWE Superstar wanted to use his entrance music now that he’s retired. Rather than treating it as something untouchable, Cena said he’d have no issue handing it over.

“I would—yeah, sure. It’s up for grabs. I’m retired. It’s up for grabs.”

Considering how closely the theme has been associated with Cena for more than two decades, it’s a surprising stance. While it’s hard to imagine another WWE Superstar walking to the ring with one of the most iconic entrance songs in company history, Cena clearly isn’t standing in the way if WWE ever decides to make it happen.

Do you think John Cena’s entrance theme should stay his forever, or would you be okay with another WWE Superstar using it? Let us know in the comments below.
