Jim Ross has shared another major update on his health. Just days after opening up about severe headaches and ongoing testing, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that doctors have now turned off his brain shunt after a CAT scan showed bleeding.
While speaking on the October 6 edition of Grilling JR, Jim Ross explained that his surgeon made the decision to turn off his brain shunt after reviewing the scan.
“Well, my surgeon who did the surgery on my head turned the shunt off because it was causing some issues, some problems.”
Ross admitted the change has been bittersweet because the shunt had made a huge difference when it came to his balance and mobility. Without it, he’s having to be much more careful.
“So, I was kind of had mixed emotions about that because with the shunt on, my balance and me walking and things of that nature are enormously improved. And with the shunt off, I’ve gotta be a little bit more careful.”
The good news is that Ross already has another appointment lined up. His surgeon has referred him to a specialist in Oklahoma City, and JR is doing his best to stay optimistic about what comes next.
“But I’m going to see another specialist this week in Oklahoma City, a new doctor, and set up by my surgeon. So we’ll see how it works out.
I’m looking for good information and positive results. So, you know, you just gotta play the hand that was dealt you, and we’ll see how it pans out at the end of the day. Fingers are crossed. It’s gonna be good news. That’s my take on it.”
Ross added that he wakes up every day hoping for some positive news and is trying to keep that mindset throughout his recovery.
“Every day I get up, we’re gonna have some good news today in some shape, form, or fashion.
So, it’s all good, man. I just believe that good things happen to good people, and I think I’m a good person, and I’m sure that we’re gonna see some positive results as time goes on.”
He then shared the biggest development of the update, explaining that the CAT scan revealed bleeding, which is what prompted doctors to shut the shunt off.
“But I’m glad I got that—see, that, what you call it, the head thing—shunt? No, the what? CAT scan? Yeah, CAT scan. My CAT scan revealed some stuff that wasn’t too cool.
But my surgeon, who got the results of the CAT scan, was all over it. And so we’ll see. It’s just—no surgery is foolproof.”
Ross later confirmed his oncologist reviewed the scan as well and said the bleeding was the reason for the change in treatment. He then said he’s still taking things one step at a time and believes better days are ahead.
“My oncologist and I had a good meeting, and she also looked at the results of the CAT scan, and they did the dye and all that stuff to make sure they knew what was going on.
And it was bleeding, and that was why he turned the shunt off. So that’s where we are, Connie. I’m just—I’m still on the road to recovery, and I’m very optimistic that the results are gonna be good.”
Last week, Ross revealed he was dealing with severe headaches from the shunt while also undergoing testing after doctors found a spot on his kidney. This latest update gives fans a better idea of what’s been causing those headaches, and now the focus shifts to what the specialists find over the next few days as JR continues his recovery.
