Jim Ross has made it through brain surgery, and the news is about as good as anyone could have hoped for. The procedure was successful, everything went well, and Good Ol’ JR could already be back home by Friday.
Conrad Thompson shared the good news on Twitter after hearing directly from JR’s daughter that everything had gone well that morning.
“Happy to report that our pal @JRsBBQ had a successful procedure this morning! I heard from his lovely daughter this morning that everything went well and good ole JR is expected to be back home by Friday! Please keep JR in your prayers as we hope for a speedy recovery!”
That’s about as encouraging an update as anyone could’ve hoped for after Ross explained exactly what the procedure involved just one day earlier.
JR revealed that doctors needed to drill a hole in his skull and place a tube running to his stomach to help manage and drain excess fluid from his brain.
“Thanks for the outpouring of support regarding my upcoming brain surgery. A hole will be drilled in my skull and a small tube will be inserted into my stomach to better manage/drain excess brain fluid. I’m optimistic. Thanks to all.”
Ross had originally announced the surgery during the August 7 edition of Grilling JR. Despite understandably not looking forward to having brain surgery, he sounded ready to get through it.
“I’m good, man. I got a big week coming up. My surgery is Wednesday in Norman, so I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I really am, to get to that point and get it over with. I have never had brain surgery before. So they’re going to put in what they call a shunt. So I’m getting a shunt put in my brain, and they said I’m only going to be in the hospital today. So that surprised me and made me happy, but still, I would have guessed longer.”
Now the hardest part is behind him. After going into surgery knowing doctors would literally be drilling into his skull, Jim Ross came out the other side with a successful procedure behind him and a possible trip home just two days away. Now it’s all about getting Good Ol’ JR healthy and back where he belongs.
After everything JR has battled through over the years, this is one update wrestling fans will be especially happy to hear. Drop your well wishes for Good Ol’ JR in the comments as he begins his recovery.
