Jim Ross doesn’t see Vince McMahon walking through the doors of AEW anytime soon.
During the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross discussed what could be next for McMahon if his legal issues are resolved. Ross has known McMahon for decades, and he made it clear that he doesn’t believe the former WWE chairman is finished with the wrestling business. Ross said McMahon isn’t wired to sit at home and completely walk away from the industry that made him a billionaire.
“He ain’t out of the game. Vince isn’t out of the game. That’s just not his makeup. What he’s going to do, one would assume it’ll have maybe something to do with wrestling because that’s where he made his way.”
Ross added that McMahon has plenty of options, but wrestling remains the one business that has always consumed him.
“I don’t know, man. The world’s open to him. It just doesn’t seem like a lot of things interest him. He likes wrestling, and I think that’s where I’d see him headed.”
That led Conrad Thompson to ask whether there was any possible scenario where McMahon could work with Tony Khan and AEW. Ross didn’t need much time to think about it.
“Unlikely. Unlikely. He’s going to want to steer his own ship, build his own boat and take it from there. Off the top of my head, I’d say probably not.”
Ross also made it clear that the lack of interest could go both ways, because he doesn’t believe Khan would be eager to bring McMahon into AEW either.
“And I don’t see Tony Khan wanting to do business with him either.”
McMahon spent decades controlling nearly every major decision in WWE, so it is difficult to imagine him accepting a smaller position inside somebody else’s company. Ross believes that if McMahon returns to wrestling, he will want complete control over whatever he does next.
