Jim Ross is preparing for brain surgery next week, but the 74-year-old wrestling legend doesn’t expect to spend much time in the hospital.
Ross shared the health update at the start of the latest episode of Grilling JR, which was recorded live in front of an audience. He said the procedure is scheduled for Wednesday in Norman and will involve doctors placing a shunt in his brain. JR admitted nobody looks forward to brain surgery, but at this point, he’s ready to get it done and move forward.
“I’m good, man. I got a big week coming up. My surgery is Wednesday in Norman, so I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I really am, to get to that point and get it over with. I have never had brain surgery before. So they’re going to put in what they call a shunt.”
Ross said one part of the process caught him completely off guard. Despite the seriousness of having a procedure done on his brain, doctors told him he won’t need a lengthy hospital stay.
“So I’m getting a shunt put in my brain, and they said I’m only going to be in the hospital today. So that surprised me and made me happy, but still, I would have guessed longer.”
Ross did not reveal what condition the shunt is being used to treat, so there’s no point guessing beyond what he shared himself. For now, JR is focused on getting through Wednesday’s procedure and getting back home as quickly as doctors expect. Brain surgery is never a small deal, but Ross sounded ready to face it head-on and get the procedure behind him.
