Je’Von Evans had an even better insult in mind for JD McDonagh than the one WWE fans heard on RAW. While the line about JD’s massive head made it onto television, Evans says he originally wanted to use a different word—but figured it would’ve gone over too many people’s heads.
Speaking on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Evans looked back at his September 28 RAW segment with JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio. He revealed that instead of simply calling JD’s head huge, he originally wanted to work the word “cranium” into the promo.
“You know, a couple Mondays ago, we had the thing with JD and Dom, and I said, ‘JD, your head is huge.’ But originally, what I really wanted to say was, ‘Dom, you got a big heart. But JD, like, the cranium is…’ You know what I mean?
But not a lot of people would understand ‘cranium,’ but us, we’d be like, ‘Oh, like—exactly. Cranium, obviously.’ You know what I mean?”
Evans hasn’t given up on the idea, though. He said he’s planning to sneak the line into a future promo and even joked that Money in the Bank might be the perfect place to finally use it.
“Yeah, I’ll use it at some point. Exactly. No, I’m going to. I’ve got to just incorporate it little by little. Incorporate it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I might use it at Money in the Bank. Yeah. I might pull something out about the cranium.”
Beyond the joke itself, Evans said he’s just happy WWE has been giving him opportunities to show fans another side of his game besides his athleticism.
“But yeah, no. I’m just grateful to be able to get on the mic and show that I’ve been working on something other than just flips, wrestling and all that, you know?”
Even though the original joke didn’t make the cut, Evans doesn’t sound ready to let it go. If he eventually gets another chance to trade words with JD McDonagh, don’t be surprised if “cranium” finally makes its long-awaited WWE debut.
