Jesse “The Body” Ventura is never short on bold statements—and this time, the WWE Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Governor suggested something that’s guaranteed to raise eyebrows: Minnesota should secede from the United States and join Canada.
During an appearance on the SpinSisters podcast, Ventura addressed what he sees as growing hostility between former President Donald Trump and the state of Minnesota. He didn’t hold back:
“Let me throw this out on your show and we’ll get some headlines. Since Trump dislikes Minnesota so much and we’re supposedly so out of control, let’s join Canada.”
Ventura criticized Trump’s rhetoric about the state and flipped the idea of U.S. expansion entirely on its head:
“Instead of Canada becoming the 51st state of America and losing their health care—like they’ve said, they would never do that because they’d lose their health care—I’d like to see Minnesota, all of us, become Canadians. Secession.”
He then painted a scenario where Trump’s political maneuvering could fracture the entire country. Ventura even took a jab at neighboring states.
“It’s obvious Donald Trump doesn’t want us. It’s obvious that he’s ready to fracture the whole country for his own folly, whatever he’s doing.”
“Then all those Iowans—think of what a mess it’ll be when they have to cross an international border to come up here fishing.”
This isn’t the first time Ventura has publicly gone after Trump. Earlier this month, he called the former president a “draft-dodging coward.” Now he’s escalating his critique by suggesting secession—and doing it with his signature flair.
Whether serious or symbolic, Jesse Ventura’s proposal for Minnesota to become part of Canada is yet another headline-grabbing moment from a man who’s never been afraid to challenge political norms. Love him or hate him, Ventura knows exactly how to get people talking
