Jay White is already back in an AEW ring, and nobody expected it to happen this soon. The Switchblade made his surprise return during AEW WrestleDream on October 17, 2026, just two weeks after the company announced he was injured and could miss up to two months of action.

White returned during the WrestleDream Tailgate Brawl preshow, teaming with The Gunns (Austin and Colten Gunn) and The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly) against the Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd and Daniel Garcia) and The Dogs (David Finlay and Clark Connors).

The Death Riders and The Dogs ultimately picked up the victory, but White’s unexpected return was a major development considering his recent injury history.

During the October 3 episode of AEW Collision, AEW announced that White was dealing with another injury and could be sidelined for one to two months. The setback came after his appearance at AEW All Out, where he competed in a Tailgate Brawl match. At the time, AEW didn’t reveal the exact nature of the injury.

That announcement was especially concerning because White had already spent much of the previous year dealing with serious physical setbacks.

In March 2025, White suffered a broken hand during a match against Kevin Knight, forcing him to undergo surgery and withdraw from the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. His recovery became even more complicated when doctors discovered a shoulder injury that eventually required another surgery.

Those issues kept White out of action for an extended period before he finally returned in 2026. Tony Khan later revealed that White’s clearance came down to the wire ahead of Forbidden Door, making his latest injury announcement another frustrating setback.

However, instead of missing another month or two, White managed to get back inside the ring just 14 days after AEW publicly announced his latest injury.

While his team didn’t walk away with the victory at WrestleDream, the fact that White was able to compete again so quickly is encouraging news. It remains to be seen whether AEW plans to put him right back into regular competition or ease him into things following his unexpected comeback.

What do you think about Jay White returning ahead of schedule at AEW WrestleDream? Should AEW immediately put him back into a major storyline, or would you rather see the company take its time with him after all his injury problems? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
