Jacy Jayne may have championships on her résumé and a much bigger spotlight on WWE’s main roster, but she still feels like people refuse to take her seriously between the ropes. Jayne made it clear that even after proving herself at the highest levels, she still feels overlooked as an actual competitor.

During an appearance on The Wrestling Classic, Jayne was asked what people might overlook about her journey now that they can see the success. That opened the door for Jayne to explain that she still feels underestimated despite everything she has accomplished.

“Well, I feel like people just overlook me in general still to this day for some reason. I feel like I’m just not taken seriously as a competitor and I will never understand that.”

Jayne then pulled back the curtain on a much tougher stretch of her WWE run. While she was consistently on television, she admitted there were points where her position on the card dropped considerably after Toxic Attraction had initially been pushed near the top.

“Um, but definitely all the work I did behind the scenes. Like I feel like people, you know, I was always on television. There was never a time I was taken off of television, but I was doing things and I was in roles that were not the lead role. You know, I wasn’t the top person. I was mid to low card at times.”

Jayne said that was particularly difficult because of how quickly Toxic Attraction had been thrown into major programs when she arrived.

“And that’s a hard pill to swallow because, you know, when I came in in Toxic Attraction, we came—we were at the top. Like I was immediately thrown into like a main event scene.”

That position didn’t last forever, and Jayne admitted watching herself slide down the card forced her to take a hard look at what she needed to change.

“And then that dispersed and I kind of just kept falling down the card and was just like doing things, you know, that probably didn’t really mean too much. Um, and I really had to like look in the mirror and figure things out for myself.”

Jayne said much of her improvement happened away from WWE television, where fans couldn’t see the amount of work she was putting in.

“And I did a lot of work behind the scenes that most people don’t know. You know, I was working morning and night doing my Performance Center schedule and going to another school at night to perfect my craft.”

For Jayne, the frustration isn’t simply about wanting more television time. She believes the performer fans see now is drastically different from the one who first arrived in NXT, and she wants that growth to be recognized.

Jayne has already gone from being part of Toxic Attraction to establishing herself as a champion and a main-roster player, but she clearly isn’t satisfied with simply having a spot. She wants people to stop overlooking her and start treating her like the competitor she believes she has already proven herself to be.
