Seth Rollins has been in WWE for over ten years and has been part of many storylines. However, that doesn’t mean he always agrees with every idea he’s given. With that said, Rollins has now revealed how he deals with bad storyline ideas in WWE.
While speaking to WFAN, Seth Rollins was asked how he handles creative ideas in wrestling, especially when he disagrees with them. Rollins explained that he considers himself easy to work with and prefers to improve ideas instead of rejecting them outright. Instead of saying an idea is bad and starting from scratch, he looks for ways to make it better while keeping the original goal in mind.
Rollins stated that if he doesn’t like parts of an idea, he tries to adjust them while still achieving the intended result. Sometimes, he might like the overall concept but not the details, or vice versa. He works within that framework to make the final product as strong as possible.
“Gosh, I am so—and I say this—maybe I’m wrong, maybe my perspective on myself isn’t great, but I’m really easy to work with for the most part. I like to take ideas and figure out how I can make them the best, as opposed to just saying, ‘This idea sucks, let’s do something completely different.’ I like to work collaboratively.
So if an idea is given to me, and there are aspects I don’t like, I approach it that way—like, ‘Okay, we can do this differently and still get to the same point.’ Maybe I like the base of the idea, or maybe I don’t like the base but I like the details—whatever it may be. I try to figure out within that framework how to make it great.”
However, Seth Rollins has admitted there have been times when he felt an idea was terrible and asked for changes. The visionary added that in most cases, his feedback is considered.
“Now, look, there have been times where I’m just like, ‘This is awful. I don’t want to do that. Can we please do something different?’ And do they listen? Usually, yeah.”
Rollins believes that if a performer doesn’t believe in what they’re doing, the audience will notice, and the result will be bad. But even a weak idea can work if someone fully commits to it. A good idea can become great with effort, but even the best idea will fail if performed without passion.
“Because if you go out there and you’re performing something you don’t believe in, it’s going to be garbage. But if you take a bad idea—even a bad idea—and you believe in it, and you put 100% into it, you can make it good. Maybe you can’t make it great, but you can make it good. You take a good idea, you can make it great. But even if you take a great idea and you go out there and phone it in, it’s going to be crap. It doesn’t matter how good the idea is.”
Seth Rollins is a top guy in WWE, and he is more than aware of how things work when it comes to the creative process in the company. After all, his skill in adjusting and improving ideas has helped him stay successful in WWE and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
