CM Punk famously left WWE in 2014, a time many fans considered one of the company’s worst. He made his return at the 2023 Survivor Series Premium Live Event, and now, a WWE star has revealed how Punk’s backstage behavior has changed since his previous run.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, The Undertaker talked about how CM Punk has changed since returning to WWE. He stated Punk is now much more mature and easier to be around, compared to his earlier time in WWE when he was more aloof and combative. Before he left, Punk often argued with people and always fought for his point, sometimes in a negative way.
“Absolutely, he’s mature. He’s actually very pleasant to be around, and that’s a word we don’t often hear thrown around when it comes to Punk. Before he left the first time, he was very aloof. A lot of times, aloof. He could be somewhat combative, and he was one of those guys who wanted to fight for every hill, but not always in a good way.”
Since coming back, Undertaker noticed that CM Punk is more friendly and open, showing that he seems lighter and more approachable. While Undertaker doesn’t know about Punk’s personal struggles, he sees Punk joking and talking with others, believing that this new attitude is consistent.
“But my experiences with him since he came back have been completely different. He’s so personable and engaging—it’s like a different guy. It’s like a weight has been lifted off him. I don’t know his personal struggles or any of that; that’s not my business. But I do know how people act and react, and I see him cutting up all the time with people and engaging in conversations. I’m not around a lot, but every time I’m there, he’s the same, so that tells me it’s probably a consistent thing for him now.”
The Phenom believes that because of these changes and the experiences CM Punk has had, he could now be a great mentor for younger wrestlers. If Punk decides to, he has a chance to share his knowledge with them and help them grow.
“Because of that, and the experiences he’s had, I think if he wants to, he now has an audience with the talent there. If he chooses to, he can let people sit under his learning tree. I hope so, because that seems like an attainable goal for the younger guys coming up, to be able to engage with him and learn from his experiences. He’s a different guy now.”
Sean Ross Sapp previously reported that WWE has been very happy with CM Punk’s run in the company so far after his return in 2023. Punk’s return to WWE has been a big moment for fans and a chance for Punk to improve his legacy with the company. With his new attitude, CM Punk can definitely become an important mentor to younger talent, sharing his experience to help shape WWE’s future and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
