Grayson Waller isn’t buying CM Punk’s “happy to be back” act. The outspoken WWE star believes fans haven’t seen the real CM Punk since his shocking return at Survivor Series 2023—and he’s waiting for the moment the mask finally slips.

During a recent interview with Gabby AF, Waller shared his thoughts on Punk’s return, making it clear he doesn’t trust the former WWE Champion’s current good-guy routine.

“I still don’t think we’ve seen the real CM Punk back in WWE yet,” Waller said. “I understand what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to make sure that his reputation has improved. ‘I’m so happy to be here. I love the fans! Thanks for everything!’ I know the truth. Punk wants to be champion. Punk wants to be the guy. He wants to main event WrestleMania and do whatever it takes. I just can’t wait for the day that he shows that and I’m proven right.”

CM Punk, who famously walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble and swore he’d never return, shocked the world with his comeback at Survivor Series 2023. But while fans may be excited to see him back, Disco Inferno claims that Punk is keeping his distance backstage.

Speaking on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Inferno revealed that Punk mostly keeps to himself in WWE. While he gets along with everyone in the locker room, Punk doesn’t have a faction or close group of friends.

“There is a level of disdain that Punk faces from his previous actions, and he’s basically there to rehabilitate himself,” Inferno said. “I’ve been told he doesn’t really have a lot of friends there. He doesn’t have a faction he hangs out with. He dresses in the locker room with all the boys and is just cool with everybody, but he doesn’t have a specific group of guys he hangs with. He’s just cool with everybody. But yeah, he’s getting glowing results backstage.”

Despite his reputation as a lone wolf, WWE officials have been very pleased with Punk’s return so far. His feud with Seth Rollins was one of the hottest storylines in WWE, and with his first official match on the January 6, 2025, debut of Monday Night Raw on Netflix, Punk is laser-focused on proving himself again.

Punk most recently competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble match, only to be eliminated by Logan Paul, cutting his WrestleMania dreams short for now. But if Waller is right, it’s only a matter of time before the real CM Punk emerges—and when that day comes, he’ll be watching closely.
